The following players are inactive for the Cleveland Browns’ Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles:
- QB Cody Kessler
- WR Jordan Payton
- OT Shon Coleman
- ILB Scooby Wright III
- DE Tyrone Holmes
- CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun
- CB Marcus Burley
None of the inactives are surprising. Three of the four players on the list, including Boddy-Calhoun, Burley, and Holmes, were not with the team all of training camp since they were just claimed off waivers. The only active waiver claim is RB George Atkinson III.
I expected Payton to be the only inactive receiver, because Higgins was with the club all offseason and Louis can play a gunner role on special teams. OT Spencer Drango was used as the sixth lineman/tight end during the preseason, so he is active over Coleman. The biggest toss-up might have been between Wright and Dominique Alexander, and the undrafted free agent got the nod.
