The Browns moved the ball into long field goal range to start the second quarter. Rather than going for a 50+ yard field goal after just having one blocked, they were going to go for it on 4th-and-2. A false start changed Hue Jackson’s mind, and the ensuing punt was downed at the 3 yard line.
The Ravens got a couple of first downs, but had to punt back to Cleveland mid-way through the second quarter. Cleveland couldn’t get more than one first down and punted right back to the Ravens. Operating out of the two-minute drill, QB Joe Flacco got the Ravens’ biggest play of the game when he hit TE Dennis Pitta for a big run-after-the-catch, as FS Jordan Poyer had taken a diving chance at breaking up the pass.
Flacco capped off the drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass to WR Mike Wallace. Baltimore only went for the extra point, making it a 20-9 game. Trying to squeeze something out in the 1-minute drill, QB Josh McCown was picked off by S Eric Weddle a little beyond midfield. It led to a 52-yard field goal by K Justin Tucker heading into the half, making it a 20-12 game. Baltimore will get the ball to begin the third quarter, now with just a one-possession lead for Cleveland.
