• “Browns starters didn't get confidence boost in first half against Bears” (Grossi) - “If the Browns’ objective was to get rookie receiver Corey Coleman some quality snaps against the Bears’ No. 2 defense, consider it mission not accomplished.”
• “Browns Scribbles: Nice moments for Nassib, Schobert and Ogbah, Coleman rusty” (Pluto) - “Rookies Carl Nassib and Emmanuel Ogbah are defensive linemen with speed. That's why there is reason for optimism about these selections. Nassib batted down a pass. The stat sheet said it was only his second of the preseason, but I swear he has more than that. Ogbah was credited with his second sack of the preseason. I thought Nassib also had a hand in that.”
• “Hue Jackson press conference: Browns vs. Bears” (Browns.com) - “Obviously, the preseason is over. The regular season is here. We don’t blink. Obviously, we would have liked to finish a little bit better, but the thing that was fun was watching the first group go out there and get some work. We kept everybody healthy.”

• “Kaepernick, Reid take a knee during national anthem” (NFL.com) - “San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt during the singing of the national anthem before Thursday's preseason game in San Diego. He wasn't alone in his protest. Safety Eric Reid knelt beside Kaepernick. In Oakland, meanwhile, Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane sat on the bench during the playing of the anthem, according to the Associated Press.”
• “Barkevious Mingo Wreaks Havoc On Giants In Dominant Patriots Debut” (NESN) - “The 25-year-old linebacker/defensive end hybrid sat out the first three defensive series but played the remainder of the game, and it did not take long for him to make an impact. He wrapped up running back Orleans Darkwa on his second defensive snap, strip-sacked Nassib on his third and, after a Patriots penalty negated the loss, teamed with Justin Coleman to force another fumble on the very next play.”
• “Rams top pick Jared Goff finishes preseason on a sour note” (ESPN) - “The No. 1 overall pick led an impressive touchdown drive, but Jared Goff also fumbled and threw an interception, and completed just 6 of 16 passes.”
