Browns re-sign ILB Scooby Wright to practice squad, release punter

On Thursday, the Cleveland Browns announced that they signed inside linebacker Scooby Wright to their practice squad. The team had waived Wright on Tuesday to make room for another quarterback and center to be emergency backups.

Now that Wright made it to the practice squad without being claimed, I think he’s likely to stay there the rest of the season, unless an inside linebacker on the 53-man roster suffers an injury. Wright had been inactive for the team’s first two games, so that roster spot was basically being used as an extension of the practice squad.

Also, when you consider that Cleveland will need to add wide receiver Josh Gordon and defensive end Armonty Bryant to the 53-man roster in Week 5, Wright being waived was probably inevitable.

To make room for Wright on the practice squad, the team released punter Michael Palardy.
