In June 2014, Ray Farmer hired Ron Hill to join the Cleveland Browns in their personnel department with the title of “senior player personnel associate.” Last year, his title shifted to “scout.” With over 36 years of experience, then, Jason La Canfora decided to jump all over this one when word leaked that the Browns were letting him go:
More change is coming in Browns front office as exec Ron Hill, very well respected, will not be back with the team. Mutual parting...— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) January 27, 2017
Marks the 2nd straight year Browns are losing 1 of most experienced proven evaluators before the draft. Parted w/3 top scouts last year. Odd— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) January 27, 2017
This is another situation where I don’t see it being too odd. Hill was a product of the Farmer administration, and Cleveland has been known to still have an excess of scouts in their personnel department.
