On Wednesday, ESPN’s Mel Kiper released his second mock draft of the year, and he’s made one change to the Browns’ first-round picks since his first mock draft in mid-January. Let’s start with the consistent part: DE Myles Garrett is still going to the Browns at No. 1 overall:

Now, in mid-February, he’s come around to exactly those two picks. Let’s start with his assessment on Garrett at No. 1 overall:

No. 1: Cleveland Browns - DE Myles Garrett - “I've made a bunch of changes in this mock from the 1.0 version. This isn't one of them. It's not out of the question that this pick could factor into the future at quarterback for the Browns, whether that's a drafted QB or one they acquire via trade. But Garrett is, right now, clearly the No. 1 player in this draft class and would be an immediate help at a position where having an elite player on a rookie contract is like stealing.”

In his previous mock draft, Kiper had RB Dalvin Cook going to the Browns at No. 12 overall, and I’ve been vocal about how I don’t agree with Cleveland taking a first-round back. This time, he’s switched gears to the cornerback position; however, it does come with a disclaimer that he’s operating under the assumption that Cleveland addressed the QB situation prior to the draft:

No. 12: Cleveland Browns - CB Tre'Davious White - “In this scenario, two quarterbacks are off the board. Since I can't simulate a trade here (Jimmy Garoppolo?), this pick is made based on the idea that Cleveland has either found a QB through trade or free agency and doesn't want to reach on another QB. White would come in and at least partially address a major need area (coverage, in all aspects).”

If the Browns had wanted a QB at No. 12 overall, they'd be a bit out of luck with Kiper mocking Mitch Trubisky to the 49ers at No. 2 and Deshaun Watsont o the Bills at No. 10.
