The mystery may have been solved.
If you recall, when the Cleveland Browns’ top brass decided to skip QB Deshaun Watson’s pro day at Clemson last week, the under-the-radar nugget was that it was because Hue Jackson and company were holding a private workout for a quarterback.
Friday morning, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that at least two teams — the Chargers and the Browns — have already worked out Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes.
Along with a #AZCardinals workout Thurs, #TexasTech QB Patrick Mahomes has had dinner with #Bears brass & worked out for #Chargers & #Browns

Mahome’s valuation is all over the place, but last month, DBN’s Mike Krupka did as thorough of a scouting report on him as you can possibly do. His pro day is next week.
Another previously unreported private workout the Browns had was with QB DeShone Kizer.
After his strong pro day, #NotreDame QB DeShone Kizer is working out with #Chargers today, source said. Already worked for #Jets & #Browns.

The fact that Cleveland kept these private workouts out of the news for at least a few days, considering today’s digital age, is...commendable? Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer also reported, via a league source, that the Browns “like Mahomes better than Kizer.”
Despite already having worked out Kizer, the Browns sent pro day scout Colton Chapple to watch his pro day on Thursday:
#Browns were represented today at Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer's pro day by scout Colton Chapple, a source said.
