2017 NFL Mock Draft: Buffalo Bills Select WR Mike Williams at No. 10

NCAA Football: CFP National Championship-Clemson vs Alabama Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

With the 10th pick in the 2017 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the Buffalo Bills select...

Mike Williams, WR, Clemson

The selection and write-up were made by The Bottom!

In this scenario, the Bills happily let the top wide receiver in the draft fall to them. Sammy Watkins is really talented, but was limited by injuries last season. Even when healthy, he could use a dynamic partner across from him to complement the Bills explosive run game.

This pick is more "highest wide receiver on their board", so I'm not married to the idea of drafting Williams over Davis or Ross. My Corey Davis man-crush in fact nearly made him the pick. In the end, I let consensus win out and chose Mike Williams. One caveat to this is that I think the Bills are the most likely trade partner for a team hoping to jump the Browns for a QB they like, and I think trading down would allow the Bills to pick up draft capital while still getting a dynamic wide receiver.

On the topic of quarterbacks, a lot of mocks I've seen have the Bills drafting one at 10th overall. I see that as a defensive move, hedging the risk they don't see enough out of Tyrod Taylor. I think they are better off being proactive and putting Tyrod in the best possible position to succeed. Despite the bad record last year, this team isn't far from being a contender. So that's why I didn't poach Trubs and piss off whoever is picking for the Browns at 12.

Pokorny: In three seasons, Sammy Watkins has shown the talent to be worthy of where he was selected in 2014, but persistent injuries have really prevented him from breaking the barrier into being a reliable No. 1 receiver. The whole Tyrod Taylor situation in Buffalo still puzzles me, with respect to whether they want him to be their QBOTF or not. A wide receiver is what 52.7% of mock drafts are clamoring for to Buffalo, but with a new head coach this year it’s more difficult to assess what the team’s position of weakness will be.

The New Orleans Saints are up next, led by makeaplay59.
