This was going to originally be a difficult decision. The Texans could go two ways. Grab a QB, which they haven’t pick one in the first round since David Carr, or go OT, to solidify the line and pick up someone in the third, such as Webb or Peterman. With the top two OTs off the board I went with and a QB, more specifically Watson for two reasons.

I did not expect he or the other remaining top prospect, Pat Mahomes to be available come pick 57, and secondly I believe that Watson is more polished out of the gate than Mahomes. With the defense, more specifically J.J. Watt not getting younger, and with some health concerns, they are in a more win now mode, hence their failed attempt to get Romo. In the long run he may not be what some would refer to as an elite QB, but he will be a good enough of a player with plenty of weapons available he can be the right QB for the system.

Pokorny: The Texans ditched Osweiler and couldn’t sign Romo, so I think it’s definitely the right choice to target a quarterback here.
