With the 29th pick in the 2017 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...

Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford

The selection and write-up were made by Robo Dawg:

Going into the offseason, the Packers needed help at CB, LB, RB and OL. They signed CB Davon House, resigned OLB Nick Perry and Clay Matthews is expected to come back from injury this season. The draft is not strong at OL, CB is deep and there will be help available in the second round, the LB's available won't out compete either Perry or Matthews, so I think the best fit for GB here is either Dalvin Cook or Christian McCaffrey.

Cook is probably the better talent, but the red flags about his character (or rather the character of his posse) are enough to steer me towards McCaffrey. Christian will provide an outstanding overall weapon to Rodgers - he'll be able to hit the hole hard or line up at slot. His receiving technique is highly lauded, and still he's working with Brandon Stokely throughout the offseason to improve further. He will have the best ability to come in and impact the Green Bay Packers immediately, especially as Eddie Lacy has departed.

I will say that the one concern I have about both McCaffrey and Cook is that they are both extremely light for RB's. Historically, these lighter RBs have durability issues. I think both will be best used in a manner where they are constantly shifting roles. I think in the pass-heavy attack that Green Bay runs, this versatility will be extremely valuable and provide a symbiosis of player and scheme.

Pokorny: Ty Montgomery did pretty well as a multi-purpose back last year, but I’m surprised that more fans aren’t clamoring to fill the running back position in round one. Maybe it has to do with the confidence that Aaron Rodgers will always have that offense in a good spot — it’s the defense that always needs to be a bit more complementary.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are up next, led by fj holden.
