With the 30th pick in the 2017 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select...

Kevin King, CB, Washington

The selection and write-up were made by fj holden:

After a disappointing collapse in the playoffs despite fielding one of the NFL's most explosive offenses, the Steelers are clearly in "win now" mode.

The biggest news for the Steelers this offseason was Ben Roethlisberger's public consideration of retirement, finally resulting in a commitment to at least one more season in chase of Superbowl glory. Considering Big Ben's lack of durability and the lack of decent backups on the current roster, the quarterback position is likely to be addressed sometime in the draft (unless Fitzpatrick can be convinced to accept a backup wage for a shot at a ring?)

But with Mahomes off the board, Pittsburgh's attention turns elsewhere in the first round. The biggest need on the defense is at cornerback and also outside linebacker where a 38 year old James Harrison is still expected to contribute, while reinforcements could also be considered at tackle and tight end. However in the absence of any elite offensive players, talent meets need as the Steelers find cornerback Kevin King falling into their laps with the 30th overall pick.

Pokorny: I wouldn’t be surprised if the Steelers targeted a quarterback to set up their future after Big Ben, but would still lean toward the “win now” move. I’ve personally consulted with a few Steelers fans I know, and the consensus they’ve given me is that they want a cornerback. King aligns with that need, but I do note the absurdity of the team still counting on James Harrison at this point in his career.

The Atlanta Falcons are up next, led by BrianB77.
