[FRIDAY'S NFL DRAFT LIVE BLOG HAS A NEW THREAD]
The 2017 NFL Draft has been underway for over an hour; this is a continuation of the LIVE BLOG we were running for the start of the first round. We will continue to live blog Browns news and NFL draft picks. You should also use the comments section as your NFL Draft open thread! (Newest updates will be at the top of the live blog below)
NOTE: Do not spoil picks before they are announced by Roger Goodell. If you do, you risk a temporary banning.
Browns NFL Draft Live Blog
[NOTE: There is a new live blog / open thread available here for Friday]
12:32 AM: We have a full recap of the Browns’ Day 1 draft posted here. We’ll be back some time Friday morning with a new live blog, along with some analysis of what the Browns can do. In the mean time, I’m about to catch some sleep after following draft rumors and live blogging for (checks clock) 16 straight hours. Goodnight, everybody!
11:36 PM: Amidst all the chaos, let’s recap the last several picks:
- No. 32 - New Orleans Saints: OT Ryan Ramczyk
- No. 31 - San Francisco 49ers: ILB Reuben Foster
- No. 30 - Pittsburgh Steelers: OLB T.J. Watt
- No. 29 - Cleveland Browns: TE David Njoku
- No. 28 - Dallas Cowboys: DE Taco Charlton
- No. 27 - Buffalo Bills: CB Tre'Davious White
11:32 PM: So we had to skip a few picks in our coverage, but at No. 29 overall, the Browns selected TE David Njoku! Our write-up of the pick is here, and go vote in the poll to grade it too!
11:15 PM: The Atlanta Falcons moved up to 26th overall and selected DE Takkarist McKinley. And hold on, the Bills and Cowboys picks are in, and now the Browns are up at No. 29 overall!
11:06 PM: Cleveland certainly didn’t stick with convention, as they selected S Jabrill Peppers with the 25th pick. Our write-up on Peppers is here, along with a poll for you to grade the pick.
10:53 PM: With the 24th pick, the Oakland Raiders picked CB Gareon Conley. He went in the first round after all, and now the Browns are up.
10:48 PM: With the 23rd pick, the New York Giants took TE Evan Engram. The Browns are up in two picks!
10:43 PM: With the 22nd pick, the Miami Dolphins took DE Charles Harris. Also, on air, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network just said the Falcons and 49ers are desperately trying to trade up. The Browns are coming up at No. 25 and could be target again.
10:40 PM: With the 21st pick, the Detroit Lions selected ILB Jarrad Davis.
10:30 PM: Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Broncos touched base with Cleveland on a trade for LT Joe Thomas. It didn’t work out, and at No. 20 overall, they selected OT Garett Bolles.
Denver explored a trade up for Christian McCaffrey, inquired about Joe Thomas' availability, but ultimately stayed put at 20 for an OT.

10:27 PM: For those wondering, here are the top players remaining on our Browns cumulative big board:
16 CB Gareon Conley
17 DL Malik McDowell
18 DE Taco Charlton
19 OT Ryan Ramczyk
21 TE David Njoku
22 LB Reuben Foster
24 RB Dalvin Cook
26 S Budda Baker
27 CB Jourdan Lewis
28 DE Takkarist McKinley
29 OG Forrest Lamp
30 OT Garett Bolles
31 OT Cam Robinson
32 CB Chidobe Awuzie
10:25 PM: With the 19th pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took TE O.J. Howard. The Browns are up again at No. 25.
10:21 PM: With the 18th pick, the Tennessee Titans selected CB Adoree’ Jackson. I would’ve guessed wide receiver and defensive back in the first round for them, but had the order flipped.
10:16 PM: With the 17th pick, the Washington Redskins took DT Jonathan Allen. He was thought to be a Top 2 pick in this draft at one point, but medical concerns lowered his stock lower than probably anyone would have expected.
10:08 PM: With the 16th pick, the Baltimore Ravens selected CB Marlon Humphrey.
10:06 PM: From the Plain Dealer, Mary Kay Cabot is continuing to push the prospect of QB Jimmy Garoppolo. I’d still love to get Garoppolo, but only for the right price. I’m not giving up everything we’ve worked to acquire to this point, but a subset of it? Sure.
#Browns now have plenty of ammo to trade for #Patriots QB Garoppolo. Have the 25th this year, 2 first-rounders next year and three 2's in 18

10:02 PM: With the 15th pick, the Indianapolis Colts picked S Malik Hooker. Damn.
10:00 PM: Per Lane Adkins of The OBR, their source basically insinuated that the Browns were not pleased to have missed out on QB Patrick Mahomes:
@jmettias / Don't know, our guy said "fuck us" when Mahomes went ahead of them
— LA (@TheRealLA__) April 28, 2017
On Twitter, Lane says that his guy also texted him that the trade from Houston at No. 12 was “too good to pass up.”
9:54 PM: The Cardinals took ILB Haason Reddick at No. 13, and then the Eagles selected DE Derek Barnett at No. 14.
9:40 PM: So one second, I’m assuming the Browns are taking S Malik Hooker and am gathering my pre-writes together on him. The next second, I here the Browns executed a trade, which we went over in detail here. The Browns now own two first-round picks and three second-round picks in 2018. They’ll still pick No. 25 later tonight.

9:28 PM: The Saints took CB Marshon Lattimore at No. 11, and the Browns are on the clock now. Hooker? Howard? Watson? Allen?
9:20 PM: The pick for the Chiefs is QB Patrick Mahomes. If QB Deshaun Watson was pissed about not being the first quarterback taken...well, now he’s going to be the third quarterback taken at best. The Saints are now on the clock, and I can only hope the Browns land Hooker.
9:13 PM: The Kansas City Chiefs have just moved up to No. 10! They gave up a haul, including a first-rounder next year, which should signal a QB.
KC traded 1 and 3 this year, and its 1 next year to move up to 10.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 28, 2017
9:12 PM: With the 9th pick, the Cincinnati Bengals selected WR John Ross. Three receivers and two running backs off the board in the Top 10! Holy smokes.
9:06 PM: Wow, think about this: if they stay at No. 12, it is guaranteed that one of these four players will be available. That’s not even considering the quarterbacks that could be there.
At least one of these four will be available at No. 12: Lattimore, Hooker, Allen, Howard
— Andrew Gribble (@Andrew_Gribble) April 28, 2017
9:05 PM: With the 8th pick, the Carolina Panthers selected RB Christian McCaffrey. We’re four picks away from the Browns!
9:00 PM: Before the Browns go on the clock again, I wanted to get a new live blog / open thread up. Also, the consensus now seems to be that the Browns are not trying to trade for QB Kirk Cousins:
Redskins sources say report that Browns trading for Kirk Cousins is NOT true
