Cleveland Browns NFL Draft Live Blog (Day 2, Part II)

Rounds 2-3 of NFL Draft rumors for the Cleveland Browns.

NFL: 2017 NFL Draft Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

This is a continuation of our live blog from all morning. I figured I would kick off a new one at the start of Rounds 2-3, as the Cleveland Browns will be on the clock at No. 52 and No. 65. Teams will have 7 minutes to pick in round two, and only 5 minutes to pick in round three (supplemental picks will last 4 minutes).

This thread will act as a "live blog" of sorts, with short one-liners about the latest small rumors, picks, or trades involving Cleveland or other NFL teams. You should also use the comments section as your NFL Draft open thread! (Newest updates will be at the top of the live blog below)

Browns NFL Draft Live Blog

11:05 PM: Here is our Day 2 recap of the Browns’ draft.

10:55 PM: We’re still here. I actually have our Day 2 recap post finished, but haven’t published it in the off chance the Browns move back up. Most of the talent remaining on our big board has disappeared. The 90th pick was just made, and 17 more picks are on the docket. I may just publish the recap post and modify it if anything changes.

10:00 PM: The Browns held a quick presser with Hue Jackson, Sashi Brown, and Andrew Berry to address their two picks. Given how quickly they finished, it’s not out of the question that they could trade back up into this year’s draft. But it also seems unlikely, because they’d need to trade an asset from 2018. Their next pick this year isn’t until the fifth round (three picks) and sixth round (two picks).

9:43 PM: We’re at the point now where we’re not going to be announcing every team’s pick any more -- only the Browns’ picks. Cleveland made their pick at the start of the 3rd round (65th overall), and it was DT Larry Ogunjobi. Our article and poll on him are up here, and Cribbs announced the pick.

9:23 PM: With the 61st pick, the Green Bay Packers took S Josh Jones. Then with the 62nd pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers got WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. With three picks to go, here are the Top 5 players on our Browns cumulative big board:

13. OL Pat Elflein
17. OLB Tim Williams
18. DE Caleb Brantley
20. CB Jourdan Lewis
23. DE Carl Lawson

9:17 PM: Sad face for Browns fans — at No. 60, the Dallas Cowboys got CB Chidobe Awuzie.

9:14 PM: The Seattle Seahawks grabbed C Ethan Pocic with the 58th pick. Then at No. 59, the Kansas City Chiefs took DE Tanoh Kpassagnon.

9:06 PM: With the 57th pick, the Houston Texans took ILB Zach Cunningham. Kizer is on a conference call right now; he’s from Toledo and says his family were Browns fans growing up.

8:58 PM: Catching up on a few picks; and remember Cleveland comes up again at No. 65 to begin the third round.

  • No. 56 - Oakland Raiders took S Obi Melifonwu
  • No. 55 - New York Giants took DT Dalvin Tomlinson
  • No. 54 - Miami Dolphins took LB Raekwon McMillan
  • No. 53 - Detroit Lions took CB Teez Tabor

8:48 PM: With the 52nd pick, the Cleveland Browns got their quarterback and it is QB DeShone Kizer. Our post is here, and feel free to grade the pick in our poll. Here was a shot of the war room just before it was announced:

8:35 PM: With the 49th pick, the Washington Redskins took OLB Ryan Anderson. With the 50th pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got S Justin Evans. The Denver Broncos took DL DeMarcus Walker. The Browns are on the clock now.

8:25 PM: With the Browns now just four picks away, let’s take a look at the Top 10 players remaining on our big board. The numeric ranking is where they ranked heading into Day 2. So for example, the top six players are already off the board on Day 2.

7. S Obi Melifonwu
8. CB Chidobe Awuzie
9. ILB Zach Cunningham
13. OL Pat Elflein
15. CB Teez Tabor
16. QB DeShone Kizer
17. OLB Tim Williams
18. DE Caleb Brantley
20. CB Jourdan Lewis
21. S Josh Jones

8:24 PM: This is frustrating how far behind the TV broadcasts are to reality. Three more picks are already in: CB Quincy Wilson to the Colts at No. 46, OLB Tyus Bowser to the Ravens at No. 47, and then RB Joe Mixon to the Bengals at No. 48. I have to follow what’s on Twitter so that I can cover the Browns’ pick ASAP.

8:20 PM: With the 44th pick, the Los Angeles Rams picked TE Gerald Everett. Then at No. 45, the Chicago Bears also got themselves a tight end with the local product, TE Adam Shaheen. Trubisky and Shaheen in Chicago.

8:06 PM: With the 42nd pick, the New Orleans Saints took S Marcus Williams. The hometown Eagles were up next, where they picked CB Sidney Jones 43rd overall. Cleveland will be up in roughly an hour barring a trade up, but the defensive backs are starting to thin out.

7:56 PM: The Vikings traded up to 41st overall to select RB Dalvin Cook. Up next are the Saints.

7:52 PM: Well then, the Carolina Panthers definitely want to protect Cam Newton more this year as not having to always carry the ball! After already adding RB Christian McCaffrey in the first round, they just took RB Curtis Samuel of Ohio State with the 40th pick. The Bengals are next.

7:47 PM: There goes another safety — Marcus Maye is off the board to the Jets at No. 39 overall. The Panthers are up next.

7:44 PM: With the 38th pick, the Chargers picked OG Forrest Lamp. Reminds me of the year the Browns got OG Joel Bitonio in the second round — good pick for them. The Jets are coming up next.

7:38 PM: With the 37th pick, the Bills took WR Zay Jones. There are still nine attractive defensive backs out there for Cleveland.

7:34 PM: Resident DBN favorite Budda Baker, the safety out of Washington, is off the board after the Cardinals selected him at No. 36. Now, the Bills have moved up and are on the clock at No. 37.

7:29 PM: With the 35th pick, the Seahawks took DT Malik McDowell. The Cardinals traded up with the Bears and are on the clock at No. 36.

7:22 PM: We interrupt this broadcast for an awesome shot of the Browns’ three first-round picks all throwing out the first pitch at today’s Cleveland Indians game!

7:20 PM: The Jaguars moved up one spot to take OT Cam Robinson at No. 34. The Seahawks are up next, and as the Browns’ pick gets closer, we’ll try to post an update of the top players still available on our cumulative big board.

7:18 PM: The first player off the board on Day 2 is CB Kevin King, headed to the Green Bay Packers. This was originally the Browns’ pick before Green Bay moved back four spots.

7:00 PM: A reminder that former Browns RB Jim Brown and WR/KR Josh Cribbs will be on hand in Philadelphia tonight to announce Cleveland’s picks:
