Is Bill Polian Some Kind of Racist?

Redington Shores, FL- I don't know about you but I'm kind of tired of Bill Polian, he of the greatest tank job of all time in the NFL, criticizing my Cleveland Browns.

Some of his criticisms appear to be so harsh, that I cannot help but think he has a real hard on for Sashi Brown and Hue Jackson. I'm going to give you a few examples and you can decide for yourself. This first excerpt is from Cork Gaines at the Business Insider in early March 2017:

"The trade itself is a joke," Polian said on ESPN. "Houston did a good job. They made a mistake and got out from under it ... But the idea of paying $17 million for a second-round pick, to me, is ludicrous."

Polian went on to further criticize the trade and mock the Browns, saying the deal was based on a "fiction," with that fiction being the idea that the Browns actually traded for a player.

"The fiction is the player," Polian said. "Cleveland is telling [NFL insiders] it is not about the player, it is about the pick. 'We got the pick. Aren't we smart? Look at this, we got the pick. We had cap space, so we got the pick.' They paid $17 million for probably a low, second-round pick."

Polian wasn't done. While he acknowledges that the Browns have acquired a lot of draft picks in this year's and next year's drafts, he isn't convinced it will do them any good.

"If you look at their draft last year, there is no evidence that they have some secret formula that they draft any better than the rest of us," Polian said. "Forty percent of first-rounders fail. Forty-five percent of second-rounders fail. More than 50 percent of third-rounders fail. That's historical over 25 years. So, are they going to be any different?"

Polian went through the list of picks made by the Browns in last year's draft, the first with the Browns' new front office personnel, and noted that "there are no All-Pros."

Of course, what Polian misses here is that a team doesn't need to draft better than other teams if they have more draft picks. A team can counter those high failure rates by simply having more picks, and that is exactly what the Browns have done.

So as if this wasn't enough bombast, several months later on Mike & Mike, Polian made some self serving narcissistic comments that were highlighted by this article in PFT:

Posted by Michael David Smith on June 7, 2017

Bill Polian presided over the worst team in the NFL as the G.M. of the Colts in 2011. That didn’t work out well for him, as he got fired at the end of the season. But it worked out well for the Colts, as it got them Andrew Luck with the first pick in the 2012 draft. And Polian thinks some teams may actively try to be the worst team in the league, if it means drafting another franchise player.

Polian said on Mike & Mike that the Browns tanked in 2016 and may have started a trend.

"The thing that worries me is that the Browns essentially tanked the season last year and no one said — except a few of us — said anything about it. And it may well be that this is something that can spread around the league, and I don’t think that’s good for the sport in the long run. Because in the end it robs the customers of the chance to see a competitive team," Polian said.

Polian wasn’t saying the Browns’ players were playing to lose, but he was saying that the Browns’ front office wasn’t playing to win. As evidence, Polian cited the controversy that erupted in September, when the Browns lost kicker Patrick Murray to a knee injury and signed replacement kicker Cody Parkey over Robbie Gould, whom their special teams coach reportedly wanted but who would have cost more money. Parkey promptly missed three field goals in an overtime loss.

"They lost their placekicker to injury. Robbie Gould was out there. They signed a player with no track record at all," Polian said.

Anyone with half a brain can pick out the absurdities that reside in these cutups. Bill Polian may just be a trolling moron or he may be an old fashioned racist that cannot see men of color making it in positions of power in the NFL. Is he jealous because he and his son Chris were passed over by Jimmy Haslam as GM material for the Browns, not once but twice, for Ray Farmer and Sashi Brown?

My senses say there is a deeper seated reason for the maniacal hatred that he has exhibited for the Browns during this off season. I don't know if any of this makes sense but Mr. Polian has made too many ridiculous accusations this year not to be taken to task.
