On crowded defensive line, Browns fans think Desmond Bryant and Jamie Meder still have a place

The competition is plentiful on the defensive line in 2017, but a couple of veterans will stick if fans have their way.

During our training camp preview on the defensive line position for the Cleveland Browns, we asked five poll questions to fans.

In Part 1 of our preview, we ignored any questions about Myles Garrett, Danny Shelton, Emmanuel Ogbah, and Carl Nassib. Instead, we zoned right in on the roster prospects of veteran defensive end Desmond Bryant, who is returning after a year off from injury. 72% of fans believe that Bryant will still make the 53-man roster. While that is still the majority, it’s not quite the 90% or so that an established veteran player would get.

In Part 2 of our preview, we asked two questions. First, we’ll start with the results of the poll on whether Jamie Meder and/or Xavier Cooper will make the roster. Meder is viewed as a good average linemen, while Cooper has been a letdown with his play. The results reflected that — overall, 81% of people think Meder makes the roster, while a staggeringly-low 13% believe that Cooper will make it. 15% of fans think that both players end up getting cut.

Lastly, in Part 3 of our DL Preview, we asked two more poll questions, focusing on who the team’s reserve defensive end could be. It’s possible that all three of these players get left off the roster, or that two of the three make it. However, our question asked if only one of them could make the roster, who should it be? The overwhelming favorite was Nate Orchard (76%), followed by Tyrone Holmes (17%). Cam Johnson (7%) continues to get little love during his NFL career.
