Head coach Hue Jackson decided to stick with QB Brock Osweiler to start the second quarter, representing his fourth drive of the game. He missed a touchdown throw to TE Seth DeValve, as the pass was just out of his fingertips. Then, he made what was a great-looking touchdown throw to WR Kenny Britt in the back right corner of the end zone, but Britt did a poor job dragging his second foot so the pass was incomplete.
Ultimately, they came up empty with no points — on 4th-and-goal, Osweiler looked for Britt on a quick slant. The throw was there, but the “physical” Britt was out-manned by the defensive back, forcing an incompletion.
On the Saints’ next drive, DT Trevon Coley made his presence known with a good pass rush and then a strip on QB Garrett Grayson, which DE Carl Nassib recovered. Naturally, QB Cody Kessler then entered the game and (with help of the field position) led a touchdown-scoring drive, with RB Matthew Dayes punching it in from one yard out to give Cleveland a 7-3 lead. New Orleans led a two-minute drill before the end of a half, kicking a field goal. It’s 7-6 Browns heading to the third quarter.
