The Cleveland Browns lost starting safety Ibraheim Campbell just two plays into their preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints.
On 2nd-and-9, Saints rookie running back Alvin Kamara burst through the Browns defensive line and plowed over Campbell near the first-down marker. The safety fell backwards from the blow, and his head bounced on the grass.
It appeared the injury was severe by the reaction of Browns defenders and the immediate cart sent to assist.
He laid on the ground for a few moments as the team’s medical cart came to help him off the field. He left under his own power, though, and was seen on the sidelines before leaving the field completely.
The team announced Campbell was being evaluated for a concussion shortly after the play. It was confirmed minutes later by multiple reports that he sustained a concussion and would not return to the game.
