Wednesday evening, Nathan Zegura and Ken Carman hosted the Hue Jackson Show on the Browns Radio Network. When Jackson comes on as a guest, you typically don’t expect to hear any groundbreaking news, but he did announce that rookie tight end David Njoku will miss the preseason opener as he continues to deal with a back issue:
Hue Jackson just told @KenCarman and I on the Hue Jackson show that David Njoku (back) will NOT play in the PS opener, but is getting better
— Nathan Zegura (@NathanZegura) August 9, 2017
Expect to see a combination of Randall Telfer and Seth DeValve with the first-team unit, followed by the likes of J.P. Holtz, Taylor McNamara, and Nate Iese later in the game.
Although it’s disappointing that we won’t get an early look at Njoku’s athleticism on display, I can’t complain too much. This is viewed as a short-term injury for him, and overall, the Browns as a team have been pretty fortunate (knock on wood) injury-wise when you compare them to a few other teams in the NFL, especially the Baltimore Ravens.
