Besides starting the season 0-2, the Cleveland Browns revealed following the game that starting outside linebacker Jamie Collins has been diagnosed with a concussion. That means he will enter the concussion protocol this week and will not be able to play next Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts unless he is cleared, and not many plays get cleared that quickly.
The Browns liked their starting trio of linebackers with Christian Kirksey and Collins on the outside and Joe Schobert manning the middle. But after that, the team’s depth is incredibly thin. Cleveland’s options come down to third-down linebacker James Burgess, or inexperienced reserves Dominique Alexander and B.J. Bello. The team could also decide to call up Deon King from the practice squad.
The news is a downer because the match-up against the Colts appears to be a very winnable game, yet Cleveland could be down their two best defenders in Collins and defensive end Myles Garrett (ankle).
