In perhaps what could go down as the least significant trade in NFL history, the Cleveland Browns announced today that they have shipped CB C.J. Smith to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 7th round conditional pick in 2020.
Not 2018. Not 2019. But 2020. And it’s not even a guaranteed pick. We don’t know what the condition is, but my guess is that he’d have to play a certain amount of games this season for Seattle.
Originally an undrafted free agent who played special teams with the Eagles in 2016, in mid-September of last year, he joined Cleveland’s practice squad. He was on the team’s 53-man roster for the final 3 games of the regular season. He played 9 defensive snaps and saw 24 snaps on special teams, finishing with 1 tackle.
So long, Smith. We hardly knew you.
