Step aside, Solomon Wilcots and Mike Patrick. The Cleveland Browns have a new preseason television crew in place.
The announcement came earlier today that former Browns quarterback Tim Couch and sports journalist Jay Crawford will be the team’s new preseason announcers for WEWS (Channel 5). The team’s preseason schedule was announced earlier today. The games against the Giants, Bills, and Lions will be on WEWS, while the game against the Eagles is nationally televised on FOX.
Crawford is already in the area and talked about the exciting opportunity over at the Browns’ website. Couch said that he hasn’t been in the area since leaving the team, but is “super excited” to be around the organization again:
“I’m super excited about it. I haven’t been back in Cleveland since I left there. It’s going to be nice to get back up there and be around the organization again. ... The fans are tremendous. They’re some of the best fans in pro football. They show up and support the team no matter what. Last year was a really tough year for them, but I think they’ve made some great moves in the offseason. They’re on the right track now and they’ve got some really talented players in there and have some great draft picks coming up. The opportunity is there to get better really fast.”
We won’t get to hear Bernie Kosar calling games like I used to love, but at least we’ll have announcers who have in-depth knowledge about the Browns as opposed to the generic and often misinformed out-of-towners in Wilcots and Patrick.
