On Thursday, just two weeks before the NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns announced that they have parted ways with seven players:
- RB Kelvin Taylor
- WR Bug Howard
- WR Larry Pinkard
- TE Gavin Escobar
- TE Matt Lengel
- LB Max Bullough
- DB C.J. Smith
I had actually thought Smith was traded to the Seattle Seahawks a few weeks ago for a conditional draft pick in 2020. But as it turns out, that trade was nullified due to a failed physical.
Howard was on the team’s practice squad last year, and Lengel spent a few weeks on the roster as a blocking tight end. The biggest “name” is Escobar, a second-round pick in 2013 who signed with the Browns this offseason. Apparently, they had seen enough to think that Escobar and the rest of these players aren’t in their future plans with the draft coming up.
