With the 18th pick of the 2018 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select...

Mike Hughes, CB, UCF

The selection and write-up were made by OhioCityBrownsBeliever:

Jon Schneider and Pete Carroll have been known to surprise people with their first-round draft picks. While I think that Seattle desperately wants to trade back from pick 18 and gather more ammunition given their limited draft picks and roster turnover, the Seattle brain trust selects Mike Hughes in this mock. Hughes is a dynamic athlete, tall and quick and high on upside. He possesses great ball skills and good instincts and shadows receivers well in man coverage.

Hughes is a better fit for Seattle than Jaire Alexander or Josh Jackson. Seattle lost Richard Sherman and Jeremy Lane this past offseason. Earl Thomas is questionable to return. Their secondary is depleted and Shaquille Griffin is the only notable player remaining at cornerback. Hometown Vita Vea was a consideration at defensive tackle but was selected one pick ahead by the Chargers. Da’Ron Payne was also considered, as Seattle needs help on the defensive line with the loss of Michael Bennett, but in the end Hughes and the Seahawks were too perfect a pair to pass. Hughes is also a tremendous return man having returned 3 kickoffs for touchdowns this past season with the undefeated Knights, and will help ameliorate the loss of Paul Richardson.

Pokorny: “The Legion of Boom is no more. Because of how unconventional Seattle has shown to be, it would actually seem surprising for them to go with a ‘normal’ pick in Hughes here, but it’s still a fine pick and fills a big void the team has.”

The Dallas Cowboys are up next, led by Topanga Jeff.
