2018 NFL Mock Draft: New England Patriots Select OT Kolton Miller at No. 23

The Patriots get an offensive tackle to replace the loss of Nate Solder.

With the 23rd pick of the 2018 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select...

Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA

The selection and write-up were made by unoservix:

The Patriots lost the Super Bowl and then lost a bunch of key players, including Tom Brady’s longtime left tackle, Nate Solder. Then through dark sorcery and things too terrible to name, they wound up with the 23rd overall pick of the draft. Assuming Bill Belichick doesn’t trade this pick for crafting materials to construct another slot receiver with his pottery wheel or something, the Pats will be in position to grab a player with a better pedigree than they’ve had recently.

The top five QBs are already off the board and no QB is going to loosen Tom Brady’s iron grip anyway, so with the 23rd pick I’ll invest in protecting Brady with UCLA OT Kolton Miller. Miller is a gifted athlete with the physical traits to succeed at his position, which cannot be taught. The Pats will count on their great OL coach, Dante Scarnecchia, to correct the flaws in Miller’s technique and turn his physical talent into success on the field. Miller should be in the mix to start right away, as neither of the Pats’ in-house candidates, Anthony Garcia and LaAdrian Waddle, can stake an unassailable claim to the job. Success with Miller will immediately fill the gap left by Solder’s departure and put the Patriots on their way to keeping Brady upright and extending their reign of terror.
