With the fifth pick of the 2018 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select...
Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
The selection and write-up were made by poultman:
Sitting here in Denver we have several spots that are high need. With some surprising picks ahead of us, we have much more difficult of a decision to make between getting a new quarterback, running back, or offensive guard. There is the Case Keenum factor as well, but since its only a two-year deal, it shouldn’t affect our decision to draft a quarterback or not. So without further adieu, with the 5th pick of the 2018 draft, the Denver Broncos select Saquon Barkley!
The pick is based off of a couple reasons. I was surprised to see what quarterbacks dropped to me, but with Keenum in house, we want to give him a year and see how he does. What is the biggest need for the Broncos could be offensive line help so Nelson was a close second choice, but I believe you will find good guards later in the draft. The next best thing to help a new quarterback besides offensive line is a running back, and I believe he is significantly better than the next best ranked running back. C.J. Anderson is a probable cut and behind him isn’t anything great. Putting Barkley next to Keenum will help him to be successful. The Broncos won their Super Bowls by having a good running game which has been missing the last couple years.
Pokorny: “It all comes down to whether Denver believes in a quarterback in this year’s class. One could argue they have the best ones still available to them at this point, which means they don’t. Many view Barkley as the best offensive weapon in the draft, and I feel Denver’s lack of weaponry on offense has caught up to them after Peyton Manning retired.”
The Indianapolis Colts are up next, led by Browns95.
