Cleveland Browns:

Jim Houston, “Mr. Dependable,” passes away (clevelandbrowns.com) - Jim Houston, known as “Mr. Dependable,” during his 12 seasons with the Browns, passed away earlier this week. Houston, a Massillon native who starred as an All-American at Ohio State before beginning his Browns career in 1960, was 80 years old.

Drew Brees to Baker Mayfield: You are a sponge (ESPN) - Nothing has changed with the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback plan. Praise from Drew Brees for this year’s first overall draft pick has not shaken the team’s resolve. Nor has a 15-for-40 game from the starter. Or a winning effort from the third overall pick in his debut with the New York Jets.

Denzel Ward looking to build on Week 1 success (ohio.com) - Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward hopes to benefit from peer pressure. Ward saw the success New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore had last season as a rookie and wants to match or exceed the accomplishments of one of his good friends and former Ohio State teammates.

Browns gearing up for Drew Brees (cleveland.com) - The Browns went from one future Hall of Fame quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger last week to another in the Saints’ Drew Brees Sunday in the Superdome, one of the most cerebral quarterbacks in NFL history.

NFL:

Cincinnati running back Joe Mixon may need knee surgery (cincyjungle.com) - We’ve got a slightly positive update. While it looks like Joe Mixon will have the surgery, it’s not expected to keep him out long, according to Adam Schefter.

Deshaun Watson, Marcus Mariota double the risks and rewards (Houston Chronicle) - When the Texans square off with the Titans on Sunday, two of the most elusive quarterbacks in the league will compete. Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota are true escape artists.

Aaron Rodgers questionable vs. Vikings (NFL.com) - The Green Bay Packers officially list quarterback Aaron Rodgers as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Rodgers, who is dealing with a sprained knee, did not practice Wednesday and Thursday, and the Packers estimate he would not have practiced Friday. The Packers are waiting for Saturday’s workout before making a final determination on his game status.

How the Cowboys are wasting Dak Prescott’s rookie deal (ESPN) - Despite the fact that they have the cheapest starter in the league in former fourth-round pick Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboysmostly sat out free agency and didn’t go after many veteran additions this offseason.
