What we can do to get better....

After watching and rewatching and rewatching the game there is ample room for improvement. Areas/players of concern/interest include the following:

1) We have to make better use of Callaway's speed and ability to beat his coverage. The man is uncoverable in single coverage schemes. Antonio could've had four TDs if our QBs had gotten/thrown the ball out in front of him. He is a special player with elite speed/quickness.

2) Our run blocking is getting better but our TEs (more specifically Njuko) can't block. He repeatedly misses his assignment or gets blown up by the guy his is trying to block. I am not sure he knows the play and/or his assignments. Neither of our guards are quick/fast enough to pull on trap plays or to get around an edge. They are much more effective with straight on pushing and holding lanes open. The one OL that is fast enough to pull is our LT. And Harrison was very good at pulling and leading running plays in college.

3) Our special teams are still not special. We need to find a guy who is good at returning kicks. We don't have a dangerous/skilled returner on the roster now and Landry is too valuable to be returning kicks. We need to cut players who repeatedly make penalties on returns. We need to have better blocking/blockers on our kicking teams. And while Joseph made all his kicks last night he isn't the answer at kicker. Go look at his kicks..none are the same...he slices, he hooks, he pulls, he hits one straight. You want a kicker with a repeatable dependable kick pattern. Especially when the weather conditions get worse. Find one.

4) None of our RBs can block well in pass coverage. Duke is the worst...then Chub..and Hyde isn't very good at it. Opponent defenses have feasted off our RBs failures to see, move to and pick up blitzers.

5) The weak link on the OL's pass protection is the RT...future blocking schemes need to help him out. He has issues with picking up assignments and he is susceptible to a bull rush.

6) One of our defenses' greater weakness is the inability to handle/stop the bubble screen. It's painful to repeatedly watch our DBs getting beaten, misplaying, and failing to stop such a simple play. FIX IT. Attack the bubble screen before it has time to make the catch and set the blocks. Don't sit back and watch it set up and come at you.

7) Our HC still can't manage the use of his time outs at the end of halves. Go rewatch the end of the first half. With better use of timeouts by the HC the Browns would of had at least 45 more seconds to execute their last possession of the 1st half.

8) Haley's exotic/trick play calling needs to be reeled in. Especially on 1st down calls and 3rd and short calls. You can get fancy AFTER your offense has demonstrated they can successfully execute basic plays. Stop the flea flickers, the end arounds, the QB draws until you have proven to your opponent you can run simple dive and trap running plays. There is nothing wrong with calling dive plays on 1st downs especially when you are starting a offensive possession inside your opponents territory/near FG range.

Now let's get better....
