26-of-38 (68.4%) for 238 yards, 2 TD. 2 rushes, 1 yard. |
- We are right in the middle of Baker Mayfield’s turnaround. He went turnover free for the first time last week in 2019, and he didn’t cough it up against Buffalo either. On top of that, Mayfield had two high marks against a good Bills secondary: his first two-touchdown game of the year, and his highest completion percentage.
- When you look at all of the Browns’ goal line issues, I can’t blame them on Mayfield this week. The plays were either runs that were stuffed, or passes that drew pass interference penalties or were dropped.
- The negatives: he still isn’t on the same page with Odell Beckham, which nearly led to an interception. He also got a little too calm in his own end zone, taking a safety that tied the game up for Buffalo.

Nick Chubb’s goal line numbers were terrible this week, but that is a team issue, not an individual issue. Chubb ran the ball very well everywhere else on the field, and seemed to benefit from the packages that had Kareem Hunt in the game. Whether Hunt was a lead blocker or used for misdirection, it worked, and will be a key point of this offense the rest of 2019.
- Hunt’s receiving ability was awesome to have. It mitigates the need to have a third receiver on the field, and probably presents more match-up advantages for the offense. The timing was off on the flip pass, but thankfully that was drawn up to be forward.

Odell Beckham had some important catches in this game, but he still had a couple of drops, and the timing on the deep ball was off (but at least they finally tried!).
- The star of the game at wide receiver was Jarvis Landry, who caught 9 out of 10 of his targets, including some contested passes. I hate when any player taunts, so his penalty early on that led to a missed field goal was frustrating. The passion that Landry brings is important, but he could’ve brought that same level of passion without the penalty.
-
Rashard Higgins’ touchdown catch was like a big shout of “YES!” from the Browns fan base. He’s the most calm, cool, collected receiver on the team, and I loved that he got that moment. It only happened because Antonio Callaway was a late scratch because he was late getting to the game.

- Props to Demetrius Harris, who had two nice catches in the first half, including one on a fourth down quick hitter to move the chains. Otherwise, the tight ends were not a focal point in the passing game.

- Thank god for Chris Hubbard’s false start that compelled Freddie Kitchens to kick a field goal.
- The Bills’ defense had 2 sacks and 4 quarterback hits.
