Previously, I highlighted Nick Saban’s Rip/Liz adjustment to Cover 3 vs 2x2 formations. Saban invented this adjustment during his time as the Browns’ defensive coordinator (1994-1995), and helped popularize pattern match coverages at all levels.
New Browns defensive coordinator Steve Wilks appears to have been influenced by the popularity of pattern matching as well. His scheme is not the exact same as Saban’s, but we can take a first look at his pattern match coverages in the video below:
