The Seahawks have multiple positions they could have drafted with the 29th pick, but after all the big 3 OTs (Williams, Taylor, or Dillard) have been taken, and this being a talent heavy defense draft, a talented CB, LB, or S could easily be found in the 2nd round. It only made sense to take best overall player available, the 6’4” 249lbs TE from Iowa. Fant has been described as bulked up slot receiver which well benefit Russell Wilson and overall passing game. With the current TEs on the Seahawks roster, I would expect Fant to a day 1 starter and be a redzone target for Wilson that he hasn’t had since Jimmy Graham.

The Seahawks just acquired their second first-rounder for the Chiefs; so while their first pick of DT Jeffery Simmons will sit for a year, they have a new toy in Fant who the highly-paid Wilson can go to.”
