Happy draft day my DBN friends!!
The following is not meant to be a ranking of the best players in this draft. These are just some of the players that impressed me in some way when I watched some of their game tape.
These are guys who I think we have a realistic chance of drafting. No Quinnen Williams etc.
In the comments please feel free to share your own lists.
Jeffery Simmons, DT
Set to fall due to injury and maybe historical assault. Simmons is a very complete DT. He has power, hand use and smarts. He has even held up in occasional snaps at NT when doubled and looked like a star at 3T.
Trysten Hill, DT
I was blown away by his ball get-off. He has a great initial burst and punch. He routinely knifes through the line and into the backfield. High potential. Good athlete for his size.
Iman Marshall, CB/S
I like him as a CB just fine. He is tall and fast, though not a burner. He is so physical. He loves to tackle and hit, never shying away from contact. His pff numbers were good. Really I'm a little surprised that he's not more highly spoken of in the mainstream. Teams have asked him to try out at safety. His versatility could be very valuable.
Hakeem Butler, WR
Very tall and long. Pretty fast. Good hands and technique - some drops but not a technical thing IMO. Great after the catch and a bully to DBs. A potential RZ nightmare for defenses. I'm almost certain that this guy will be a huge star in the NFL.
Nasir Adderley, S
Some of the guys on my Mock Draft page put me onto Adderley. He is a fast, smart, dynamic player who plays the game with real swag and attitude. He has ball skills and loves the physical side of the game.
Greg Gaines, NT
Gaines is on the shorter side, but he's heavy, stout and mobile. Very stout against the run and surprising as a rusher (though mainly a 2 down player). He was dominant in drills at the Senior Bowl. A good rotational player to have.
Porter Gustin, EDGE
Fourth put me onto this guy. He's had some injuries and they may have taken their toll on his body. If he is medically clear of any problems, this guy would be a good get. He is extremely powerful. Thick legs and a monster bullrush. He uses his hands effectively too.
Germaine Pratt, LB
A sturdy build and a sure tackler. He didn't test as well as I thought he would which makes me think he has very good instincts. He just looks a step ahead of everyone else at times, making him the type of player that finds his way through traffic and into the backfield. If he were as strong as White I'd like him more than White.
Jace Sternberger, TE
Very productive as a receiver, he has excellent hands and body control. I love the way he adjusts to the ball and makes hands catches. A willing blocker with room to grow. He is a smart, productive player who could contribute immediately.
Deionte Thompson, S
His speed isn't ideal. His ball skills, instincts and physical style are excellent. I liked him when I watched the tape, it's only other stuff that has given me doubts. I am inclined to trust the tape.
Mike Bell, SS - A thumper with LB power.
Darnell Savage, SS - A very fast player, quick to diagnose the play and flow to the ball.
Johnnie Dixon, WR - The other Ohio State WR has good speed, hands and production. Noticed him during field drills at the Combine.
Trevon Wesco, TE - A vicious, powerful blocker. Very heavy for a TE but moves well.
