The Browns traded up from No. 49 to No. 46 in the second round.
With the 46th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected CB Greedy Williams (6-2, 185 lbs, LSU) . After not having a first-round pick on Thursday, Williams becomes the first player of GM John Dorsey’s 2019 draft class.

When the Dawgs By Nature community compiled our big board, Williams was listed as the No. 9 overall player! Yes, although the Browns had to trade up three spots to get him, fans can’t believe he was still there. Here is a scouting report from CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler, who projected him to be a 1st- or 2nd-round pick.
A two-year starter at LSU, Williams played both left and right cornerback in Dave Aranda’s 3-4 base scheme, primarily playing press-man and off-man coverages with some zone concepts worked in — he also played on punt return coverage, slowing down gunners. He was rarely out of position in college with the length and sink-and-flow athleticism to mirror receivers’ movements. While competitive and tough on some tapes, he appeared to shut things down later in the season and his struggles shedding blocks or consistently finishing in the run game were a season-long issue. Overall, Williams lacks ideal bulk and play strength for the next level, but his athleticism and length allow him to blanket receivers in man coverage, projecting as a high upside NFL cornerback if his play personality is consistently competitive.
Here is what Pro Football Focus said about Williams:
A top-10 player on our big board, the Cleveland Browns make a trade up to grab the speedy cornerback. Wilks runs a zone scheme defense, but pairing Williams with last year’s No. 4 overall pick Denzel Ward might mean a shift in schemes; both are fantastic man CBs.
-Tied for 29th in overall grade among draft class cornerbacks
-No. 20 in coverage grade among draft-class cornerbacks
-10th lowest completion percentage against in class at 40.3%
-Tied for 24th with a passer rating against of 58.1.
How He Fits the Browns
The Browns might have just picked up a starting cornerback in the second round, and they hardly had to trade up. With CB Denzel Ward taken No. 4 overall last year, this comes off as an excellent pick for Cleveland.
What do you think, Browns fans?
How do you grade the Cleveland Browns’ selection of CB Greedy Williams at No. 46 overall?
