Here is a scouting report from CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler, who projected him to be a 2nd-round pick, and was his 54th-ranked player in the entire draft. He was also the 32nd-ranked player on our community big board.
A one-year starter at Alabama, Wilson took over as the full-time MIKE linebacker in Nick Saban’s 3-4 scheme as a junior and produced mixed results. He was pegged early on as the next first-round linebacker in the Alabama pipeline, but his development appeared stagnant throughout the 2018 season, not taking the expected steps in his growth as a player. Wilson is a good-sized athlete with the fluid movements, field range and ball awareness to make plays against the pass and the run. However, he needs to become more refined to be a reliable playmaker, projecting similarly to an inconsistent version of Colts’ linebacker Darius Leonard. Overall, Wilson’s wild play, undisciplined approach and lack of anticipation are holding him back, but he is an impressive size/speed/strength athlete with the versatile skill-set to develop into a true three-down NFL player.
How He Fits the Browns
The Browns continue their defensive-heavy approach to the draft. What’s funny is that they took LB Sione Takitaki yesterday, who was thought to be a sixth-rounder. They take Mack Wilson today, who was thought to be a 2nd-rounder. Flip those selections, and fans care much less about “where” they were drafted.
I had Mack Wilson as a much better prospect than Sione Takitaki. Now, THIS is how you get great value on Day 3. https://t.co/pAbCPW3tFR— Brent Sobleski (@brentsobleski) April 27, 2019
What do you think, Browns fans?
How do you grade the Cleveland Browns’ selection of LB Mack Wilson at No. 155 overall?
