Possible TC cuts at DT that could be of interest.

Since we have struck out on Ethan Westbrooks, Gerald McCoy and Mike Daniels in our search to bolster the IDL, I have went through the rosters and presumed depth charts at Ourlads to compile a list of DT's that could be on the bubble that could also bolster depth and/or beat out what we got.

I am a little higher on Trevon Coley and/or Carl Davis as veteran presences that can help keep LarryO and Sheldon fresh.

Coley made his bones here as a decent back up in 2017 and Carl Davis did the same from 2015-2017 in Baltimore. Davis was a high priority FA for many teams if he had been cut in 2017. He was and JD used his first refusal rights to nab him. Unfortunately, he suffered a groin and could never get going. I had read a rumor that he may have been in G3's doghouse, too.

Danny Ekuale shot some sparks in 2017 camp and is again. Hopefully he can stay healthy and out of trouble and make this team.

It was surprising how many I came up with because of the impact the draft had in bringing in an influx of talent on the interior. So, I had to do a little cut down myself.

Tell me what you think and who would be your top 5. Maybe I'll combine and score those lists and post my results as to who you all like the best in a final top 5 in another post.

Here's what I came up with....

Vince Taylor, RDT, Miami Dolphins- 6-3/306, 3rd year... All Big 12 for Oklahoma St. in 2016 where he tallied 58 t's and 7 sacks in junior season... 6th round pick for the 'Phins... The addition of Christian Wilkins has bumped him to 3rd string on a team that is 5 strings deep on the IDL. Flashy, but has injury bug. 21 games, 45 t's and 2 sacks in limited time for '17- '18.

Ourlads says... Productive interior lineman who presses the pocket with his long arms and big hands. An upfield pressure player that is a two-down run presence. Good athlete with quick feet to stuff the gaps. A tackle to tackle player that fills the inside running lanes well.

Willie Henry, DT, Baltimore Ravens- 6-2/306, 5th year... 4th rounder in '16 for the Ratbirds. We can bet he knows how to play. The drafting of Daylon Mack and Gerald Willis has him buried on 3rd string.

Ourlads says... Has some impressive triangle numbers plus long arms and big hands for the position. A big man who can run. He is versatile enough to play any position in any scheme front. Cleveland native.

Joel Heath, DE-DT, Houston Texans- 6-5/293, 4th year... Frame suggests more of a DE than DT, but we can use some depth there too. Currently 4th string on a stacked DL. Addition of Charles Omenihu and Albert Huggins in the draft has probably ended his DT snaps...

Ourlads says... A big athletic man with long arms and big hands. A good effort player who can stack a double team and doesn’t get pushed out of the hole. Gets his hands up on the pass rush. Quick to diagnose the play after controlling his opponent. Reacts quickly on the snap. Can explode and unlock his hips with force. Good base leverage and lower strength. Almost always draws a double team. Plays with good core strength and balance. Runs to finish the play. Has two gap ability.

Billy Winn, DT, Denver Broncos- 6-4/295, 5th year... We know a little about Billy and I think he's a tick better than Trevon Coley. A lot of experience at 30 years old and earned his bones the hard way in the beginning of his NFL career. 3rd stringer on a stacked line that doesn't fit his skillset. Addition of Dre'Mont Jones makes him expendable in my eyes...

Ourlads says... Best fits a four man front where he moves inside at tackle or plays outside at end. Explosive at penetrating a gap. Plays with violent hand quickness. Can leverage blocker back and play on the other side of the line of scrimmage. Gets good push up the field in the pass game. Versatility increases his value as a 3-4 end or a 4-3 tackle. Good short area quickness to close down running lanes. Power player who stays on his feet and keeps his legs moving. Closes down the inside with authority. Mobile and shifty with speed to string out the play and pursue to the sideline. Good production versus the run. Explosive hitter who doesn’t lose ground...

Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, Oakland Raiders- 6-3/320, 4th year... Extreme high upside player that has trouble keeping his weight under control thus causing multiple injuries. Chuckie don't like players that aren't available. To his credit, I don't think he's had the right locker room and ours is shaping up quite well. Probably needs a change of scenery. Former 3rd rounder that came out of the gates fast in his rookie season...

Ourlads says... A versatile talent and skill set. Tough, physical, and aggressive. Plays low with leverage. Above average foot speed and quickness for a big man. Slips blockers well takes good angles to chase downfield. Has the lower body power to stack double teams. Has the quickness and refined rush moves to impact and disrupt the gap. Good penetrator. No quit in this guy.

Gabe Wright, DT, Oakland Raiders- 6-3/300, 4th year... I'll add two from the Raiders since Chuckie's cleaning house and you never know what he'll do. Gabe was here in 2015 and was activated 3 different times and got some meaningful snaps. Albeit on a horrible line. Wasn't good, wasn't bad if my memory serves me right. Plugs the hole well and could serve as a space and snap eater late in the game like Brian Price did in 2018. Price looks like an injury waive so far. My least favorite of this group and was 51-49 on adding him...

Ourlads says... Athletice with catcher’s mitts for hands. 2 gap prospect who plays hard with good strength. Flashes an upfield burst as a disruptive inside force. Projects as a two down run player. Pushes the pocket by playing low and with leverage. Flashes a quick gap slide and loop around to pressure the pocket. Stays square and moves his feet. Breaks well on passes and will pursue downfield...

Kerry Hyder, DT, Dallas Cowboys- 6-2/290, 5th year... Another kid who flashed big time in Detroit (Anthony Zettel) before moving on. Dallas gave him a nice contract when they had no one reliable on the interior. Additions of Chris Covington via FA and the drafting of Trysten Hill, Daniel Wise and Ricky Walker has him now relegated to 4th string. Could be a late cap casualty.

Ourlads says... Does the most damage as a 3 tech playing tackle to tackle. Quick upfield move that is disruptive all across the line. Active with good instincts and awareness to find the ball. Plays with effort and aggressiveness. Versatile enough to play all over....

Damon "Snacks" Harrison, NT, Detroit Lions- 6-4/350, 9th season... Yep, I'm calling it. Matt Patricia doesn't seem like his kind of HC. Currently in a contract squabble and injury prone. Losing out to Detroit in the Mike Daniels sweeps may still help us out. Detroit also has some nice looking youngsters behind him in PJ Johnson and Darius Kilgo. Ourlads has nothing to say. His talent speaks for itself as does his drawbacks. May not fit here because of one dimensional game ala Danny Shelton... but what a 1D game he has when motivated....

Muhammed Wilkerson, DT, Free Agent (GB)- 6-4/315, 9th year... The Pack have totally redone their D-line on the outside with veteran FA's and also drafted some really nice prospects for the interior (Gary, Keke and Sagapolou). Enough so that they cut Mike Daniels and let Clay III walk. MW and The Pack were in negotiation, but his recent DUI bust and the influx of talent plus his ongoing recovery from 2018's injury will make him expendable in my eyes.... or at least lower his value to where he won't accept.

Call me crazy, but, I think this guy's got enough juice left to be a great rotational piece if he's signed to another prove it deal much like the one he got from GB at 5m. I don't think he'll command that in 2019 when it's all said and done. I bet BB takes a sniff... why not JD? Wasn't long ago that he was a top 5 player in this league. But, there would have to be some serious vetting by JD to satisfy me....

Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Atlanta Falcons- 6-6/310, 5th year... His name was connected to the Browns as a possible FA signing before although I don't think it was JD. Atlanta's looks set at DT with Jarrett, Senat, Crawford and Davison plus the addition of John Cominskey via the draft. The top 4 can start at any time. RH is a former starter now sitting on the 3rd team for it.....

Ourlads says... Angular tackle that gets his hands up to knock down passes in the throwing lane. When he bends his knees and plays low he has the power to knock a guard on their tail. May be best as a NT relegated to inside push duty because he plays so high. Many of his best plays come when he is on the move angling or on a twist stunt. Long arms to bench press blockers. Very agile and nimble for a guy his size. Passionate player who plays with anger. A late bloomer who has shown flashes of sheer dominance at the point of attack. When his pad level is right and he fires out of his stance he creates a new line of scrimmage whenever he wants....

Vernon Butler, NT, Carolina Panthers- 6-4/323, 5th year... Another case where losing the McCoy sweeps may work out for us. Absolutely dominant when healthy and motivated. Steve Wilks and Al Holcomb know how to get him there. Don't know where I read it, but he is a likely candidate because he sits behind McCoy, Poe and Short who are all versatile PB caliber players. They also have a fine career back up in Kyle Love. Cream of the crop if he becomes available....

Ourlads says... A big man. Has some first step quickness and lateral moves to make plays away from the line of scrimmage. Can control the inside running lA bull rusher who can press the pocket.lanes with dominance if he stays low. Disruptive if he hits a crease on the move. Upper body strength to stack the run at him. Good effort player who will finish long pursuit. Demonstrates power with an excellent first step. Long arms and active, strong hands. Good feet and balance.

Kyle Love, DT, Carolna Panthers- 6-1/310, 9th year... I only add this guy for 3 reasons. Wilks/ Holcomb are familiar with him, highly experienced successful career back up that has played many schemes on dominant lines, and I've heard of him more than anyone we have similar to him. Just like Butler, the Panthers can clear a roster spot and some money by letting him walk. If they choose to keep Butler, Love's almost a given to be gone. I'll bet Wilks will want to take a look if he don't have his man... Ourlads has nothing on him... Odd...

Rakeem Nunez- Roches, DT, Tampa Bay Bucs- 6-2/307, 6th year... Nothing flashy here, just a good run stuffer and grass eater that can take some snaps. Made his bones the hard way. TB's D has been stout for a long time and for a kid of this type to earn as many snaps as he did is a testament to toughness. With the drafting of Terry Beckner Jr., the FA signing of NT Beau Allen and Arians preference of the 3-4, he may be expendable. I'd call him a tick better than anything we have for DT3....

Ourlads says... A one gap penetrating tackle with a first step. Splits double teams and stacks the run right at him. Plays low and with leverage as a knee bender. Good athlete with big hands for the position. Good lateral quickness and change of direction. Flashes some acceleration after initial contact. High effort and takes good angles in both long and short pursuit. Stays on his feet balancing and controlling his body....

Vince Valentine, NT, Arizona Cardinals- 6-4/329, 4th year... Made a little noise in NE his rookie season and shown some dominance as a back up. Injury waived and has been a regular on PS in AZ and SEA since. Ton of upside left and no wear on the tires....

Ourlads says... Started 24 of 36 games at Nebraska and started his career off hot and appeared to be a future first rounder at one point. An arm injury ('14) and an ankle injury ('15) cut into his development and production. Has a significant upside if he can get on top of his conditioning. His strength and easy power in combination with a surprising ability to close in space is not easy to find. Can fit into most schemes. Big body capable of clogging lanes, controlling gaps and blockers. Presses blockers to their heels. Plays low and gets the inside hand position. Handles the double team well, won’t lose ground.

Robert Nkemdiche, DT, Arizona Cardinals- 6-3/294, 5th... Not touching him myself, but ... who knows? ... Maybe Steve Wilks might know something we don't so I'll put him here anyhoo....

Ourlads says... Underachiever who flashes tidbits of natural talent. Off-field vetting will be important after numerous failed drug tests and general immaturity. Supreme waste of talent so far...

His triangle numbers for the position (height, weight, speed) are Pro Bowl caliber in comparison with Ndamakong Suh. has experience at both end and defensive tackle. He pressures inside gaps but doesn’t finish plays. Good short area quickness. Presses the pocket at times with good leverage. Flashes the ability to overwhelm a blocker. Can play in space. Violent hitter. Technique poor.

Has untapped power and quickness. He also scored three touchdowns on offense, two receiving and one rushing and blocked one field goal attempt in college....

Michael Dogbe, DT, Arizona Cardinals- 6-3/296, 1st year... He's probably going to be the kid that knocks Nkemdiche off, but I can dream... right?. My position is that he is a 7th round lottery ticket that the Cards may try and PS if they keep Robert. I love this kid's college tape and JD should jump out of a tree for him if that happens. This kid has so much LarryO in him it is scary. I'm surprised that we passed on him. But, then again, I'm no scout...

Ourlads says... Awarded the coveted single digit jersey at Temple for being tough and hardnosed with a non-stop motor. Outstanding upper and lower body build for an interior defensive lineman. Physical and strong at the point. Versatile talent that has experience at both tackle and end. Projects to a 3 technique interior penetrator. Has vise grip hands and long arms.Has an explosive first step where he shocks the blocker, sheds, and face up tackles. Led all AAC interior defenders with 39 total quarterback pressures according to Pro Football Focus. Led all defensive tackles with three forced fumbles in 2018....

Jamie Meder, DT, Seattle Seahawks- 6-2/305, 5th year... We know the Prince, we love the Prince and we know what he is or isn't and missed him badly in the run game for 2018. Bring him back JD! You made a mistake.... own up to it!

Ahtyba Rubin, DT, Free Agent (Sea)- 6-3/330, 12th year... One of the best things JD could do to further endear himself to us fans. Let Ahtyba retire a Brown. He deserves the recognition for being our best D-lineman for 7 of the leanest season in club history !!!

What the hell?! Wouldn't hurt to see if he has enough left to eek out another season and contribute. We are only looking for depth after all. His experience and professionalism would be a great benefit to the younger players.

If not, retire him a Brown anyway.

The last I knew of him, he was still a pretty good back up on a very strong D-line in Seattle for'15-'16. Hung around for '17 on another strong D-line in Atlanta and was still hanging around in Oakland last season.
