While the Cleveland Browns play the waiting game for the Super Bowl to end so they can hire Joe Woods as their new defensive coordinator, part of the staff that he’ll be working with is already coming to form. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Browns are hiring Jeff Howard to be their passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach.

Howard has been a defensive coach with the Vikings since 2013; most recently, he held the title of “Assistant Defensive Backs Coach / Defensive Assistant Coach.” It was announced a few days ago that he would not be returning to the Vikings in 2020. The overlap between Woods and Howard in Minnesota was only one season in 2013.
