Todd McShay’s 2020 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Browns taking OT Josh Jones

Houston’s Josh Jones has been a late riser at the offensive tackle position.

Todd McShay of ESPN released his second mock draft of the year last week. To compare, here is who he had the Cleveland Browns taking in his first mock draft:

McShay 1.0: WR Tee Higgins

McShay’s first mock draft was still during the regular season, when the Browns would’ve been picking 14 overall. It would’ve been pretty funny to lose Rashard Higgins, yet still be able to say that the teams No. 3 receiver was Higgins.

Since then, though, offensive tackle prospects are on the rise, and we know that Cleveland is picking 10th overall. Like Mel Kiper, with that 10th overall pick, McShay sees the Browns taking an offensive tackle:

No. 10: Cleveland Browns - OT Josh Jones, Houston- “I hadn’t seen enough of Jones before he dominated the trenches all week at the Senior Bowl, but he is a 6-foot-7 behemoth with tons of athleticism. Greg Robinson’s one-year deal is up, and there’s an open spot on the left side of that Cleveland line. Quarterback Baker Mayfield somewhat quietly turned it around in the second half, and it’s no coincidence that it came with an improvement in pass protection for the Browns. Buy Mayfield some time and you can bet Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. will find a way to get open. Louisville’s Mekhi Becton and Georgia’s Andrew Thomas are also potential choices here, but I really like Jones’ potential.”

Jones was the 25th pick in Kiper’s mock draft. In our recent analysis here at DBN on offensive tackle prospects for the draft, Jones didn’t crack our Top 4 players in consideration — but Barry Shuck mentioned how he could be a factor in round two. We’ll see if Jones’ stock continues to rise.

Would you be happy if the Browns selected Jones? Here is McShay’s Top 10:
