PFF Rankings- Safety Prospects

Since it is mock season & we are mocking left & right how about a rankings of the safety position. It's a position that many teams are looking to fill & many rosters have glaring holes here. The question is when to pounce, sure BPA is hyped as a rule of law, but the depth of the position pool also needs to be taken into consideration. You don't want to reach, but you don't want to wait too long.

We know they aren't going safety in round one, that much is obvious, but what about later? The second tier of safeties look to be great value, but supply is limited, are you buying?

Let's see how they have the top 10. I also included their number from the Big Board. I didn't include the pros/cons because quite honestly every prospect has them. In this exercise is just about ware they rank by position & on the big board. My philosophy has always been you hope to get the best you can from a position group & you want his ranking to be less than your draft pick number.

1 Xavier McKinney- #16

2 Grant Delpit- #22

3 Kyle Dugger- #38

4 Antoine Winfield Jr- #46

5 Ashtyn Davis- #67

6 Brandon Jones- #86

7 Jeremy Chinn- #88

8 Terrell Burgess- #112

9 Julian Blackmon- #124

10 Antoine Brooks Jr- didn't make the Top 150

So there you have it, these guys should all be inside the 4th round although there will some quibbling over details as some are this & some are that. They all come flawed but should be able to play from day 1 & all play at a decent level in their first contract. The thing that really will make a difference is ware they end up as that will determine if they have long careers or quickly wash out. The league is in dire need of safeties, the position is still in a flux as there are not enough to go around & the safety is a weak link for many teams. What say you?
