For much of the game, the San Francisco 49ers were in control of the Kansas City Chiefs. They held a 20-10 lead mid-way through the fourth quarter, and it looked like even the explosive Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t be able to conquer the 49ers’ defensive front. And then, in the final seven minutes of the game, the Chiefs proceeded to rip off 21 straight points to win Super Bowl LIV by a final score of 31-20.
The play that changed the tide for the Chiefs was this 44-yard pass from Mahomes to WR Tyreek Hill on 3rd-and-15. It was the first major breakdown we saw from San Francisco’s defense, and if this play doesn’t happen, one would venture to guess that we have a different outcome in this game.
When the Chiefs were up 24-20, the 49ers still had a chance to rally. However, on 3rd-and-10 from midfield, QB Jimmy Garoppolo overthrew WR Emmanuel Sanders, who had out-run the double coverage deep over the middle.

When the 49ers couldn’t convert on fourth down, Kansas City put the game away with a 38-yard touchdown run by RB Damien Williams.
The following former Browns now have a Super Bowl ring:
- OG Cameron Erving
- C Austin Reiter
- RT Mitchell Schwartz
- DE Emmanuel Ogbah (injured reserve)
- RB Elijah McGuire and DL Devaroe Lawrence are on the Chiefs’ practice squad.
