Isaiah Simmons isn’t so much a player that can fit in a certain defensive scheme as much as he is a player that you build your scheme around. He’s an electrifying athlete with incredible size and speed. Simmons’ versatility allows him to play on any level of the defense, and will be a great asset to Patrick Graham, Giants DC, as he seeks to rebuild a struggling unit.

After Young and Okudah went off the board, Simmons should clearly be the BPA for whichever team has the confidence to take him and change the complexion of how defense is played in the NFL. This pick is out of character for Dave Gettleman, who would surely prefer a traditional approach like taking a tackle at this pick, but there are multiple very good tackle prospects in this class. There’s only one Isaiah Simmons.

Pokorny: “The Giants could be attracted by their pick of the top offensive tackle, but have to look at all the points that the defense allowed last season. Simmons is a great athlete, being able to sub a sub-4.40 in the 40-yard dash, and along with free agent signing Blake Martinez would help balance the offense and defense better.”
