Having lost a lot of veteran talent, especially on defense, with the #25 pick the Minnesota Vikings select Yetur Gross-Matos, DE, Penn State. Other options could have been at LB, WR, or O Line but I think Mike Zimmer, a defensive coach, wants to double up on Defense and take a pass rusher. The Vikings have been pressed up against the cap for a while, but with five picks in the top 105 the Vikings are poised to get younger and cheaper.

Yetur has prototypical size and length at 6-5 265 LBs and 35” arms. He is seen as a Boom or Bust prospect but has shown good production in college with 9.5 sacks in 2019 and 20 TFL in 2018. Yetur has all the physical tools to be able to be a productive edge rusher in the NFL and with good coaching and added strength he could be elite. He also should fit well as a replacement for Everson Griffen as a 4-3 Defensive End in Zimmer’s scheme.

Pokorny: “I was originally thinking wide receiver here, but Gross-Matos is a good selection too. It’ll be interesting to see whether the Vikings’ plan to get younger and cheaper will pan out. I think Mike Zimmer is a good enough coach to make it happen, but will the offense be able to stay on track too?”
