With the 31st pick of the 2020 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select...

Josh Jones, OT, Houston

The selection and write-up were made by mrwhitman:

This pick just as likely to get traded since the 49ers do not have a single pick between Rounds 1 and 5. I can also see San Fran trading either one or both of their 1st round picks. Due to losses in free agency, putting players on trading block, the 49ers will want (need) picks in the early-to-mid rounds. GM John Lynch could be ready to wheel and deal after setting up his at-home war room with nearly 8 monitors, 3 telephones and multiple computers to conduct the draft.

If the 49ers stay put at Pick 31, there are multiple routes the NFC Champions can take with this selection. They created a hole when they traded DeForest Buckner to the Colts last season so defensive tackle is an option. Had division rival, Seahawks, not taken DT Ross Blacklock a few picks before this would had been the pick. Had the team in Baltimore not taken Cesar Ruiz, the guard out of Michigan, this would had been another option. John Lynch could also look to the secondary but once again, very talented and capable DBs dropped before the draft got to them.

John Lynch will instead look to solidify the future of his offensive line by drafting Josh Jones, the raw but athletic OT out of Houston. Jones needs a maturation year sitting behind a veteran and he will, learning from Joe Staley who more than likely will be playing his final season in the National Football League.

Pokorny: “This draft would give the 49ers another receiving option, and an offensive tackle of the future, going offensive heavy and an already-well-coached offensive team (but so is the defense). The 49ers are the type of team who can afford to draft a player based on future potential as opposed to immediate need now.”

The Kansas City Chiefs are up next, led by pt_999.
