The Prez Sez: Browns Backers President’s Week 9 predictions vs. Bengals

These Presidents know their Browns football

Bay Area chapter

Browns Backers Presidents just don’t simply look good and do all the work to organize their chapters. They know football, and more importantly, know Cleveland Browns football.

The Bay Area chapter located in San Jose has a territory that includes the San Francisco area as well. This chapter was founded in San Jose in 1986 by Lt. Col. Harold V. Manson (seated on the right in our group picture). Manson grew up in Houston, TX and followed the Browns from day one. Harold has since passed away but his Browns loyalty remains in all of us. BABB grew from 12 fans to over 1,200 in the San Francisco Bay Area. From SF to San Jose and across the bay to Oakland, Cleveland Browns fans dominate the scene at each of the eight sports establishments we attend.

Each week, DBN invites five Browns Backers chapter Presidents to provide their insight with the outcome of Cleveland’s next opponent.

This week’s Presidents and their predictions:

Greater Cincinnati Browns Backers

President: Brian Clifton

Cincinnati, Ohio

Favorite former player: Josh Cribbs

Favorite current player: Jarvis Landry

Viewing location: Slatt’s Pub

Best menu item: This tavern has an entire drink menu named after local armed services hero Bobby Skully who has remained in Europe due to COVID restrictions

Weekly prediction: “Browns 28, Bengals 24”

Sud de France Browns Backers of Montpellier

President: Beau Whitney

Montpellier, France

Favorite former player: Bernie Kosar

Favorite current player: Nick Chubb

Viewing location: Les Bockales

Best menu item: Buffalo wings with bleu cheese, with a side of Poutine (a dish of french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy) served with an Autumn Hoppic craft blonde beer whose drought of hops is mitigated by a particularly round yeast rich in flavour

Weekly prediction: “We’ll be going into Cincy after what will seem like a normal rivalry game against the Steelers after two close ones that we split against the Cards and Broncos. Things should be clicking by Week 9 and it will be our first complete 60 minutes of football where we dominate all phases from start to finish. The win against the Bengals will put the nail-biting performances against the Vikings and Bears firmly in the rear view. 100 yards rushing in the fourth quarter pounding out first downs on the ground, as Stefanski will have finally realized having two good runners on the field at the same time is a good idea, while the clock ticks down to VICTORY! Browns 35, Bengals 17”

Brooklyn Browns Backers

President: Justin Kearney

Brooklyn, New York

Favorite former player: Bernie Kosar

Favorite current player: Myles Garrett

Viewing location: Johnny Mack’s Bar & Grill

Best menu item: Littleneck clams with a side of roasted potatoes and served with a “The Drunken Scarecrow”: Old Crow Bourbon, apple cider, honey syrup & fresh lemon juice

Weekly prediction: “Banged up Browns vs. the AFC North division rival Bungals, sorry I mean Bengals. After watching the Browns ground out a win vs. the Broncos and I mean ground out a win thank you D’Ernest Johnson and a stout Browns defense. The Browns grab their lunch pails and go to work on the Bengals and improve their playoff run. It’s not going to be pretty but final score Cleveland 21, Cincinnati 17. Game ball goes to Myles Garrett with two sacks - one which is a crucial strip sack to help the cause.”

Bay Area Browns Backers

President: Bud Genovese

San Jose/San Francisco, California

Favorite former player: Jim Brown

Favorite current player: Nick Chubb

Viewing location: Britannia Arms Cupertino (San Jose), R Bar (San Francisco)

Best menu item: Shepard’s Pie with steamed vegetables: family recipe with savory ground beef, carrots, peas, corn and onions in a rich gravy topped with mashed potatoes and cheese, then baked golden brown

Weekly prediction: “Browns come off a Halloween trick against the Ben Frankenstein led Steelers. As the Browns head into Cincy, they face an improved Bengal team. Joe Burrow is the real deal, and the Browns defense must contain him, sack him, and double cover Ja’Marr Chase to have a chance to win. Browns 31, Bengals 24”

Carolina Browns Backers

President: Ryan Solan

Charlotte, North Carolina

Favorite former player: Eric Metcalf

Favorite current player: Nick Chubb

Viewing location: The Blind Pig NoDa

Best menu item: Jameson Irish Whiskey

Weekly prediction: “Bengals take an early lead and the Browns trail on the last possession. Baker takes the offense down the field on a long drive for the win before a hostile Cincinnati home crowd. Browns 31, Bengals 27”
