DE Takkarist McKinley’s Contract, Cap Hits Per Year
Year | Base Salary | Signing Bonus | Roster Bonus | Total Cap Hit |
---|---|---|---|---|
Year | Base Salary | Signing Bonus | Roster Bonus | Total Cap Hit |
2021 | $2,500,000 | $1,000,000 | $187,500 | $3,687,500 |
- McKinley’s contract has $3.5 million in full guarantees, which consists of $2.5 million from his base salary and his $1 million signing bonus.
- His roster bonus is actually a per game roster bonus, worth up to $750,000. That’s why his contract is being labeled as being worth $4.25 million (take his $3.5 million guaranteed, plus the roster bonus).
- However, only $187,500 of that roster bonus counts towards the cap. Why? Because per game roster bonuses are labeled as “likely to be earned” and “not likely to be earned,” depending on how many games the player played the previous season. McKinley played in four games in 2020, so $187,500 is 1⁄4 of his roster bonus that counts against the cap. The rest of it does not count. However, if McKinley plays more than four games, that will be subtracted from the Browns’ carryover in the adjustments figure heading into the 2022 offseason.
- Lastly, McKinley has up to $1.75 million in playing time, sacks, and playoffs incentives.
