With the 6th pick of the 2021 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft, the Miami Dolphins select...

Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU

The selection and write-up were made by realmccoy:

So as the Miami Dolphins go on the clock, I want to go inside the united and focused mindset of every individual inside of our war room.

1. With gratitude to the idiocy of Bill O’Brien – the Dolphins have acquired a historical amount of draft capital, including 2 first round draft picks in 2021 and additional first rounders in both 2022 and 2023, and an “oh by the way” additional 3rd in 2022. So while everyone else plays “draft checkers” we are here to play “draft chess”.

2. This pick and the entire draft will have only 1 focus. We are going to find out if Tua is our QBOTF or not. We are going to make this pick by asking one question: Who will help Tua the most? We want no excuses, no doubt, we will test Tua and use the draft capital to send him packing if he doesn’t come through.

3. We have targeted Kyle Pitts as “as our guy” and will run to the podium if available. Plan B is Penei Sewell, and we will listen and talk trade. With those 2 players going 4 and 5 – we now have rabbit ears for all trades, as we are going WR and this is a fantastic WR class.

With the 6th Overall Pick, the Miami Dolphins select Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU

Ja’Marr Chase opted out of the 2020 college football season, but it is clearly evident that he spent his time wisely, putting on an incredible show at LSU Pro Day

Height 6-0 3/8”
Weight 201 lbs
40 Yard Dash 4.38 secs
Vertical Jump 41”
Broad Jump 11’
Short Shuttle 3.98 sec
3 Cone 7.0 sec

While we really love Chase and the 2 Bama standouts – we landed on Chase because he is the best combination of hands and speed of the 3. His weakness vs. the Bama standouts is his route running, which needs improvement – but remember we last saw him wreaking havoc as a Sophomore, posting the insane numbers of 84 catches, 1780 yards, 20 TDs, and a YPC 21.2. And if you want a scary thought, remember he was generally considered the faster, more dangerous WR than his LSU running mate Justin Jefferson who BTW basically destroyed the NFL last year as a rookie.

So where are we after this pick? We have just transformed the Dolphins WR corps from a pedestrian group with Devante Parker as their most dangerous WR – to one of the fastest, most dangerous groups in the NFL, with Chase likely WR1 with his 4.33 speed, and the FA signing of Will Fuller who is as lightening fast as he is oft injured. So Tua – you are on the clock and your time is ticking. You have the weapons, make the big jump or else we use that capital to get our new QBOTF.

Pokorny: “The Dolphins really came together under a new head coach last year, so getting another piece for Tua to succeed is key here. It’s a little disappointing that it couldn’t have been Pitts or Sewell, but Chase is still a great consolation prize.”
