After trading for Jared Goff, the Lions are all in on upgrading their offense. And there is no greater upgrade/need that they could make than by protecting their (hopeful) franchise QB. Short term, he is likely to start on the right side, but could end up being the LT of the future for them.
They also have a hole at Center (and some believe Slater could play there) and could use some more playmakers at WR. But, if the QB cannot stay upright, all the weapons in the world are meaningless. There are some interesting options available on defense, but you don’t trade for a young QB...and then not help him.
Pokorny: “The Lions could go a number of different directions here, but it’s not ideal for them to see the top wide receiver and top offensive tackle off the board by the time they pick at No. 7. Do you take the next best receiver? Next best tackle? A linebacker? Slater has a lot of upside, even if he’s not a sexy pick for the Lions — but their wide receiver situation does need to be addressed.”
