In a move that’s sure to upset the Bears faithful, Chicago selects Alijah Vera-Tucker out of USC. The Bears need help in the secondary for sure, and I think many fans are hoping that Chicago-native and Northwestern star Greg Newsome II lands here. However, the offensive line is a disaster and we start the less exciting task of rebuilding it with this draft.
Vera-Tucker projects as a guard in the NFL, but he played left tackle during his final season at USC and took home 1st team all Pac-12 honors. He’s a high-floor guy with tremendous versatility along the line, and he’s just what Chicago needs to jump start the running game and help protect QB1(!) Andy Dalton. Truth be told, Mac Jones would’ve been the pick here had the Football Team not gotten him first. They may have just saved us from having Mitchell Trubisky 2.0, so I’m not that mad about it.
Pokorny: “The Bears going with Andy Dalton as their quarterback sounds like a disaster, but I don’t think there’s a move to make at quarterback here. Vera-Tucker could play guard or tackle for Chicago, but it’ll take more than him to rebuild things.”
