During free agency, the Cleveland Browns signed DT Malik Jackson to a 1-year deal worth $3.75 million. As he did with other free agents, Browns GM Andrew Berry included some void years in the deal to save some cap space in 2021 and shift the heavier finances to a dead year in 2022.

DT Malik Jackson’s Contract, Cap Hits Per Year

Year Base Salary Signing Bonus Roster Bonus Void Total Cap Hit
Year Base Salary Signing Bonus Roster Bonus Void Total Cap Hit
2021 $1,100,000 $631,250 $117,188 $0 $1,848,438
2022 $0 $631,250 $0 $1,262,500 $1,893,750
2023 $0 $631,250 $0 ($631,250) $0
2024 $0 $631,250 $0 ($631,250) $0
Total $1,100,000 $2,525,000 $117,188 $0 $3,742,188
  • With the exception of his roster bonus, Jackson’s contract is fully guaranteed — that includes his $1.1 million base salary in 2021, and his $2.525 million roster bonus, which is spread of four years (three of which are voided years).
  • In 2022, Jackson’s remaining three years will void, and Cleveland will accelerate a dead cap hit of $1.894 million.
  • Jackson also has a per-game roster bonus that totals $125,000. Since he played in only 15 out of the 16 games last year, only $117,188 of that counts against the cap.
