The Cleveland Browns unveiled their 75th anniversary throwback uniform on Saturday morning, which the club can wear up to three times this season.
The uniform was revealed on the team’s mobile app along with a few other “exclusive” perks, including the opportunity to purchase merchandise, before they become available to everyone starting on Tuesday.

The uniform pays a nod to the franchise’s inaugural season in 1946, with a white jersey that has brown numbers with an orange shadowbox outline. The jerseys, which also feature the team’s 1946 patch, will be worn with the club’s current white pants and white socks.

Seeing as how the NFL’s one-shell rule is still in place for the 2021 season, the Browns opted to place uniform numbers on each side of the helmet like they did from 1957 to 1960, and a white stripe down the middle, which they had from 1952 to 1959. The helmet will sport a gray face mask, which the Browns used from 1961 to 1974 and again from 2006 to 2014.
All the elements come from different eras in the team’s history, and including them in the throwback design is a way to honor that history, JW Johnson, the team’s executive vice president, said in the news release:
“The Browns are one of those iconic franchises in all of sports, not just the NFL. We really wanted to give a nice nod to the past and the players that have paved the way for the team we have here today. It’s just a nice thank you to them for everything they’ve done for this league and for this team and for this city.
“We wouldn’t be here without the likes of Jim Brown, Otto Graham, Lou Groza and Joe Thomas. We want to honor them. We want to respect them.
“We spent a lot of time going back and looking at old photos and the history of the team and working with our friends at Nike and the NFL to put this all together. At the end of the day, like we said when we went back to the uniforms we are currently wearing, we wanted something clean, iconic, traditional and something that would honor the team and represent it appropriately.”
