In six games of the 2023 NFL season, Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett has put on an absolute show and dominating performance after dominating performance. His Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts encapsulates how impressive he has been this year:

  • 9 tackles
  • 2 sacks
  • 2 QB hits
  • 1 tackle for loss
  • 1 forced fumble
  • 1 pass deflection
  • 1 blocked field goal

For the year, Garrett has 7.5 sacks, six tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits and two forced fumbles.

Oh yeah, and the Browns defense, led by Garrett, has carried the team to a 4-2 record.

The NFL is loaded with pass rushers like Micah Parsons and TJ Watt. Those two and Garrett lead the odds, by a significant margin through seven weeks of the season, for the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award.

Garrett's impressive Week 7 moved his odds from +275 in Week 6, behind Parson, to +200 this week, tied with the Dallas Cowboys defender. Watt’s odds also improved from +300 to +225 this week.

For the season, Danielle Hunter and Watt lead the league with eight sacks with Garrett closely behind. Parsons has five sacks in six games. Garrett (2), Watt (6) and Parsons (10) are also three of Pro Football Focus’ overall top-graded defenders this season.

After the three defensive ends, no other defender is closer than +1600 (Aidan Hutchinson) according to DraftKings.

When comparing AFC North rivals Garrett and Watt, which do you think deserves the DPOY award so far this season?
