The 2023 NFL season has been wicked for Browns injuries

Injuries are a part of the game in the NFL but the Cleveland Browns seem to have had horrible luck in 2023. The Browns roster has been decimated with issues since Week 1 and that has continued all the way into Week 15 against the Chicago Bears.

While many teams fold when they have one major injury, Cleveland has kept going with an 8-5 record with a chance to make the NFL playoffs this year.

Trying to figure out who is on the Browns roster, at times, can be tough. Remembering who was on the roster when the season started is even more difficult.

Here to handle the latter is a simple list of Cleveland’s initial 53-man roster (Maurice Hurst was not on the team’s initial roster) with players no longer playing for the team struck through and notes on players who have missed a number of games due to injuries but are still on the team:

  • QB Deshaun Watson
  • QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson
  • RB Nick Chubb
  • RB Jerome Ford
  • RB Pierre Strong Jr.
  • WR David Bell
  • WR Amari Cooper
  • WR Marquise Goodwin - Missed multiple games
  • WR Elijah Moore
  • WR Donovan Peoples-Jones - Traded
  • WR Cedric Tillman
  • TE Jordan Akins
  • TE Harrison Bryant
  • TE David Njoku
  • OL Joel Bitonio
  • OL Jack Conklin
  • OL Nick Harris
  • OL James Hudson III
  • OL Dawand Jones
  • OL Ethan Pocic - Will miss Week 15
  • OL Wyatt Teller
  • OL Jedrick Wills Jr.
  • OL Luke Wypler
  • DL Jordan Elliott
  • DL Myles Garrett
  • DL Shelby Harris
  • DL Siaki Ika
  • DL Isaiah McGuire
  • DL Ogbo Okoronkwo - Expected to go on IR, will miss Week 15
  • DL Za’Darius Smith
  • DL Dalvin Tomlison
  • DL Alex Wright
  • LB Matthew Adams
  • LB Mohamoud Diabate
  • LB Tony Fields II
  • LB Jordan Kunaszyk - Spent time on IR, will miss Week 15 as well
  • LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
  • LB Sione Takitaki
  • LB Anthony Walker Jr.
  • CB MJ Emerson Jr.
  • CB Mike Ford Jr.
  • CB AJ Green
  • CB Cameron Mitchell - Was on IR during the season
  • CB Greg Newsome II - Missed multiple games this season
  • CB Denzel Ward - Has missed multiple games, questionable for Week 15
  • S D’Anthony Bell
  • S Grant Delpit - Might be able to return for playoffs
  • S Ronnie Hickman
  • S Rodney McLeod
  • S Juan Thornhill - Has missed multiple games including Week 15
  • P Corey Bojorquez
  • K Dustin Hopkins
  • LS Charley Hughlett

Seven of 53 players are on IR and either out for the year or at least the rest of the regular season. Okoronkwo is expected to join that list but it seems the team is hoping for a miracle solution with the defensive end. On top of that, six players have missed multiple games in 2023 as well.

Add the DPJ trade and the Browns initial 53-man roster will only have 39 players who have missed a game or less this season.

Seeing the initial roster laid out, does it surprise you how many players have missed multiple games or did you think the number would be higher?
